Honoring Women’s Contributions

March is Women’s History Month, which honors women’s contributions throughout American history, issued by presidential proclamation in 1980. Women’s History Month encourages reflection on the progress made in gender equality while acknowledging the ongoing challenges women still face worldwide in business. Things such as pay disparity, underrepresented political decision-making, access to funding for women founders, and more. You can read more about Women’s International Day here along with trailblazing women and ways to make an impact.

March 8th is an important day around the world when we celebrate Women’s International Day (WID). WID is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. While women have made great advancements over the last several decades, especially in business, we just aren’t there yet. There is still quite a bit of work to do in the area of underrepresented women leaders, access to business capital, and support for working mothers in the workforce.

As a woman in business and technology, I personally celebrate three decades of making change and breaking barriers. I’ve done this in my own career, mentoring our up-and-coming generation of women,

and partnering with some powerhouse women to drive economic growth.

In 2022 I made a dream of mine come true. With the help of some amazing women I know, I was able to certify 5P Consulting as a woman-founded and owned organization through the Women Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC) by obtaining our Women Business Enterprise (WBE) and Women-Owned Small Business (WOSB) certifications.

As we look to celebrate women not just today, but every day, we need to do that through action versus words. Over my career, it’s been very important for me to hire and also partner with talented women to share our stories and encourage other women that they too can have amazing careers and make changes in the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) fields.

This day is a celebration of diversity in business and it reminds me of not just all the amazing women who have crossed my path in life, but also the men who have supported gender equality. We often forget there are many men who have been instrumental in supporting women and advocating for equity as well. So, today I want to celebrate all who focus on diversity, equality, and inclusion for women.

To hear more about my personal story of my 30-year career, I brought back a couple of items from the archives, and I hope this is inspiring to you:
